E. Joseph ("Joe") Henwood, III
Continuing his service in the City of Chester, Pennsylvania, Joe is the Executive Director of Binnacle Reinvestment Group, a development company formed to harness the need for economic revitalization of older business districts with the common desire for the social experiences of an vibrant downtown district. His prior Chester experience includes seven-years serving as the Senior Development Officer for CityTeam Ministries, an international non-profit organization headquartered in San Jose Californian, serving the poor in cities across the country and around the world. In 2001 he was assigned to CityTeam’s Philadelphia Area Rescue Mission located in the City of Chester, Pennsylvania.
Prior to beginning his non-profit service in 2001, Joe’s for-profit business career included the founding, development and successful sale of six diverse companies providing industrial equipment rebuilding services and sales, equipment leasing, property management, software development and fundraising services. He served in the U.S. Military as a Naval Aviator, Lieutenant, assigned as a pilot to anti-submarine warfare and transportation squadrons; as well as a programmer/analyst and Cryptology / Top Secret Control Officer for the Naval Command Systems Support Activity in Washington, DC.
While a member of the crew team at West Philadelphia Catholic Boys High School, Joe rowed a single scull winning two high school national champions, and as a member of Vesper Boat Club, he repeatedly earned seats on four United States’ National Rowing Team boats representing our country in Canada and Europe, winning two gold and two silver medals in international competition. The recipient of a full scholarship for rowing, he captained the crew team at St. Joseph’s University where he earned a B.S. in Marketing / Management and was inducted into the St. Joe’s Sports Hall of Fame in 2000.
Joe and his wife, Penny, are now “empty-nesters” with two grown sons, and reside in Upper Providence Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. For the past twenty-six years they have worshiped at Church of the Good Samaritan in Paoli, Pennsylvania.
